Gates
has been located in Mid-Town Memphis producing
high quality Architectural Millwork for over
83 years. Founded in 1920 by P.A. Gates, the
company was purchased by North Memphis Lumber
Company in 1955. George Buzard, who was
employed by North Memphis, bought the company
in 1985. A family business, his son Bobby is
responsible for Sales and Operations and his
daughter Ginny Nabors is Comptroller.
Not content with continuing in the past, Gates
has modern machines and equipment to produce
the best custom millwork around. We have two
Weinig Moulders, A Unimat 23 and a Profimat
23.These are supported by a Weinig Rondamat
934 pattern knife grinder and set-up stand
keeping our tools consistant, sharp and ready
when we need them. Weinigs’s Axil Constant
System makes complicated patterns easy to
reproduce. Whether 40 feet of special crown in
an older home being restored or 30,000 feet of
base for a multi-family project, Weinig makes
it happen.
Our
Norfield 4000 door machine and 4100 frame
assembler makes production runs of 200 units a
day a snap. A Mikron 645 Multi Moulder for
radius moulding, a Timesaver 100 Sander and
other up to date equiptment compliments the
millwork production package. To facilitate
order entry and inventory control, Gates uses
DCC Woodware Systems Unix based computer
system. Our fleet of 2-ton vans rolling
everyday brings the quality to our customers
on-time every time.
Our clients include Architects, Interior
Designers, Developers, General Contractors,
Remodelers and Homeowners.
What started, as a small one-room office, is
now over 50,000 square feet of state of the
art facility serving all your millwork needs.
Every step of the way, Gates is 21st Century
current while not forgetting our historic
past. As our slogan states “Your Gateway to
Quality and Service” means just that.
